News & Views – April 2020

What an extraordinary and challenging world we are all now living in and how fast these changes have come upon us…

My thoughts and best wishes are going out to all friends, clients and businesses in the hospitality and tourism industries at this time and I look forward to the opportunity to catch up with you once we are “back out on the other side”…

I also want to take the opportunity to thank the Hospitality Training Trust for the grant that they gave me last year to take a variety of workshops out on the “Roaming the Regions” tour.  Although the numbers attending seemed down on previous years I got some very positive feedback from attendees which always make the planning and facilitating super worthwhile…

Remember to check out their website – applications for the 2020 grants need to be in by 09 April 2020…

At this stage we are of course all unsure what this year will bring – I am using my time in “lockdown” to help out the team at the Restaurant Association both on the helpline as well as looking at some ideas for some training webinars (I know me in the on line space – that will be a shock!!) as well as spending some time doing some on line learning myself – Social Media Marketing and Emotional Intelligence being two of the subjects I am checking out….so yes maybe that Turning Tables Facebook or Instagram site may finally appear!!!

Please let me know if you need any tools and resources to assist you with updating your in house training materials during this close down period – more than happy to help.

Take care and keep safe out there…Cheers from Marg

Some quotes that I have found that seem to suit the current situation….

“Never trust someone who can’t eat a meal alone at their own kitchen table”.    (Ellen Barkin, Actress)

“Sometimes being happy will require some difficult conversations.  Some of these conversations will be with yourself.”    (Domonique Bertolucci)

“Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a great battle.”                           (Ian Maclaren, Writer)

“When angry, count four; when very angry, swear.”  (Mark Twain, Writer)

“Challenges are what makes life interesting and overcoming them is what makes life meaningful.”  (Joshua J Marine)

Some interesting places to visit on line:

  • – Website helping some of the little producers get their products out to customers
  • – some on line learning material that could be interesting for your team
  • #TogetherAtHome – some musicians doing a few intimate concerts from their home/lounge
  • – they’ve narrowed the name for the Auckland City Rail Link tunneling machine down to three options and they are Georgina, Whina and Margaret …go online to vote for your can probably guess which one I went for!!!

“Amazing content which bought a few things to light.  Have things to work on now and also feel encouraged.  Always love your workshops!”
